5. What Lies Beneath (2000)

Directed by Robert Zemeckis

Starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer as the Spencer family, a seemingly normal happy couple. The wife, Claire starts to experience strange occurrences in their home; voices, whispering, and even brief apparitions of a young girl. It was only later she makes the chilling discovery that a girl her husband was having an affair with killed herself. Claire’s therapist advises her to attempt to contact and confront the spirit in order to find out “What Lies Beneath”.

4. 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg

’10 Cloverfield Lane’ is a successor of sorts to the 2008 film ‘Cloverfield’, a found-footage monster flick that captures the experiences of a group of friends in New York while a un-seen monster rampages through the city. The 2016 film proved that bigger is not always better, and follows a woman, who after a car crash is held in a shelter with two men who claim that the outside world is severely affected by a chemical attack. John Goodman plays an amazing character in this gripping and intense story, definitely deserving of a viewing. For those interested, ‘Cloverfield’ is also available to stream on Hulu.

3. Devils Advocate (1997) 7.5

Directed by Taylor Hackford

Keanu Reeves stars as Kevin Lomax, a budding young lawyer who is offered the job of a lifetime at a high-end law firm. Kevin’s now boss and mentor John Milton (Al Pacino) is slowly become more sinister as Kevin rises quickly up the firm’s ranks. While Kevin is spending less and less time with his wife, she is becoming increasingly more distressed; claiming to see frightening demonic visions. This thriller/horror has some amazing acting and if you’ve never got round to watching this 90s classic, now is a perfect time.

2. Pet Sematary (1989)

Directed by: Mary Lambert

Our first and only Stephen King adaptation on this list is the 1989 film Pet Sematary, based on the popular novella by “The master of Horror”. The film follows ‘The Creeds’ a family who’s just moved into a seemingly perfect house in the countryside. Everyone seems reluctant to talk about the mysterious graveyard behind the house in the woods, and they soon find out why. Any King fans should check this title out this Halloween.

1. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Directed by Jonathan Demme

Probably one of the best and most well-known performances in any horror is Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ is a great addition to Hulu’s libary and follows a young F.B.I cadet who must question the incarcerated cannibal in the hope of capturing another serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. This absolute Horror classic has won 5 Oscars and is not a film you’ll be forgetting anytime soon.
