In under a month, the new Marvel/Hulu Original Runaways will debut on our screens. It’s clear that recently Marvel has been trying to get their titles everywhere they possibly can, and we’re definitely not complaining.
Those familiar with Marvel’s projects will know that in the past years they’ve released a number of different series on Netflix, including Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist. All have done exceptionally well and even recently came together in an Avengers-style mini-series titled The Defenders.
But with Marvel about to debut a new show on Hulu, will we be set to see something similar to ‘The Defenders’?
All the way back in 2008 Marvel Studios began production of a film titled Runaways. It might not sound familiar because the project was canned in 2013 due to the amazing success of The Avengers. We have already done a Season 1 Preview of Runaways.
In August 2016, Marvel Television received a pilot order from Hulu regarding the Runaways. Shortly after being written and developed by Josh Swartz and Stephanie Savage, the show was cast and the pilot began filming back in February 2017.
Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will also be playing a big part in the new Hulu series. They are also responsible for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Daredevil, so it is more than possible if Runaways does exceptionally well, they will be looking forward to expanding the Marvel Universe, within Hulu.
Other Marvel Series already on Hulu
Although it’s not an Original, Marvel’s Inhumans is also available to stream and premiered on the 25th of October. The series follows an isolated group of superhumans who are being forced to fight for themselves as their world collides with ours. Unfortunately, Inhumans hasn’t been particularly received well since it’s realse, but this still doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a watch.
A more popular Marvel series that’s available on Hulu is the AMC show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The series is a spin-off from the Marvel films and mostly follows agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team of agents who are tasked with tracking and enforcing individuals with powerful gifts. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D spans over 4 seasons, with the 5th due to be released in December 2017.
Additionally, Hulu hosts a number of Marvel animated titles, anything from the original Marvel Comics Spiderman, X-Men: The Animated Series to the animated Iron Man series.
More Marvel Shows Coming to Hulu in the Future?
2018 is due to welcome plenty of new Marvel series on Netflix, including the second season of both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and maybe even the third season of Daredevil. With all those projects being in the works, it seems unlikely that Hulu will get the same treatment, at least not anytime soon.
But saying that, if Marvel’s Runaways is a runaway success (pun intended), anything is possible. You should definitely stay tuned for more quality superhero content being produced for Hulu in the near future.
