Introducing Hulu Original Series: Future Man

Hulu has just announced a brand-new Original title ‘Future Man’ due to release on November 14th. The comedy Sci-fi is a cross between Terminator, Back to the Future and The Last Starfighter, all Sci-fi classics.

The film stars Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) as Josh Futterman, a Janitor for a high-tech scientific research organisation, and also an avid gamer. Unbeknownst to Josh, the video-game he is obsessed with is actually a recruiting program sent from the future in order to find humanity’s saviour.

Josh finds out that in the not-so-distant future, the human race has almost been wiped out by a scientist attempting to create a cure for herpes, now they must travel back in time to prevent the scientist from getting herpes in the first place, and therefore not attempting to cure it.

The Cast

As mentioned earlier, the protagonist of this new Hulu original will be Josh Hutcherson, most recognisable from his role Hunger Games. He will be playing the unwitting computer-game nerd who’s thrown into a world of high-stakes time-travel.

The two main supporting characters are played by Eliza Coupe (Left) and Derek Wilson (Right) who play Tiger and Wolf, two soldiers from the future who travel back-in-time to save the human race. Eliza is best known for her role on the ABC rom-com Happy Endings and benched. Whereas Derek played Donnie Schenck in the AMC show Preacher.

Keith David (left) has also got a part in the series, portraying the ‘present day’ scientist Doctor Kronish. Keith has been doing a lot of work voice acting recently including shows like Rick and Morty (The President) and Adventure Time. Of course, as this show includes time-travel, a younger version of Kronish will be played by Cendric Sanders (right).

Another cast member, Glenne Headly sadly died on June 8th, she had 13 episodes planned throughout the season, but only filmed 5. The producers stated that the episodes she contributed to would still air, and they would not recast her. She has a great career and will be missed, Rest in Peace.

One of the main driving forces behind this project is Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg, childhood friends who have collaborated on many films, including the cult classic SuperbadPineapple Express and the controversial film The Interview; all pretty successful ventures that stand Future Man in good stead.

It’s obvious from the trailer that this series takes a lot of inspiration from classic sci-fi films like Back to the Future and The Last Starfighter, which is defiantly not a bad thing in our books. Personally the show kind of gives off the vibe “made by fans, for fans”, but that’s just what I get from the trailer.

Release Date

The first season of this comedy, Sci-fi show is due to hit Hulu screens on November 14th. All 13 episodes will be released at the same time, perfect for anyone who loves to binge shows all in one go.

Be sure to keep tuned to Whats on Hulu near the time of the show’s release, as we will be showcasing information on the season 2 renewal status and details as soon as we have them.
